Three Ways to Use Patent Analysis to Defeat Your Competitors

What are your competitors planning? How can you find out? You might read the Wall Street Journal, trade magazines, and blogs; you might attend conferences and meetings; you might ask your colleagues. But if you need timely information about new technologies and competitive threats, you should take advantage of patent analysis.

When companies need to protect a valuable technology they apply for a patent. The patent application, by law, contains a detailed description of how to make and use the invention. In addition, the application contains information about the company, inventors, collaborators, related patents, and legal representatives. Acquiring this information is the purpose of a state-of-the-art search, also known as a patent landscape search. Analyzing the information provides competitive intelligence you can use to smash your competitors as explained in this article – how to patent an idea with InventHelp.

Patent analysis delivers competitive intelligence insights in three areas: identifying players, identifying technologies, and estimating technology value.

Identifying Players

  • Business competitors – Monitoring the patenting activity of your direct competitors can show you where they intend to move next.
  • Intellectual property competitors – Companies that patent, but don’t practice, in your area might be willing to license their technology, or they may use litigation to extract royalties from you.
  • Emerging competitors – Patent analysis will help you identify new competitors before they become a threat.
  • Collaborators – Examining patent assignees will help you find out who’s working with who. Which companies have research agreements with other companies, universities, and institutes.
  • Technology acquisition – Would you like to acquire companies or technology? Patent analysis shows you who to look at more closely.
  • Key inventors – Which inventors are driving the development of new technology? A look at their patents provides the answer.
  • Size of effort – Patent analysis will show you how much effort your competitors are spending on R&D. How many inventors. How many research locations. How many patents. How many technologies.

Identifying Technologies

  • Technology development – What are the latest developments in your technology? Patent analysis delivers the answer.
  • Technology drivers – If you need to know which companies, and which inventors, are driving technology improvements, patent analysis delivers the answer.
  • Estimating Technology Value – The more money a company is willing to invest in a patent, the more valuable they believe it is.
  • Page count – Longer patents take longer to write and tend to be more valuable.
  • Claim count – The larger the claim set the higher the application fees – the higher the value invested.
  • Family size – The larger the patent family – provisional applications, divisional applications continuations, continuation-in-part applications, foreign applications – the more invested and the higher the value.
  • Portfolio size – A large group of patents is more valuable than a small group.
  • Citations – Patents that are highly cited by later patents are generally more valuable.
  • Dates – Filing dates can show if the effort is growing or shrinking, and therefore the value.
  • Legal status – Are the maintenance fees being paid? Valuable patents are kept in force.
  • Legal representation – Who wrote and filed the patent? Strong patent firms are used for important patents.

Getting the Right Things For Your Event

Hosting a custom corporate event can be a tough thing to do on your own. Not only are they difficult to plan, but executing the actual event is no small task either. Many companies that want to have their events go smoothly will hire outside help. You can outsource many different things that you would have to take care of on your own.

You could go for an event furniture hire company, such as Black Label Events company, and have a whole different and new set of furniture for your big party. These exhibition furniture hire companies can really make your part look very different from anything else. By doing this you can really create a professional atmosphere at your event.

One of the most common things to do for an event is to get a bar hire. This way the company does not have to make itself or any of its employees responsible for managing the bar. This can include many things that could be difficult or uncomfortable. While a nice bar can be a really great thing to have an event you do have to be careful about how much alcohol your guests consume.

By having an outside company handle this you do not have to worry about it. Just simply sit back, relax and let them handle everything. In addition they can provide trained staff that are very experienced at serving drinks and handling customers. By making the right choice you can really make your event a memorable one for all the right reasons.

Healthy Vending Machines

Make employees’ lives easier in the workplace. With fresh, healthy food in the new modern vending machines, the race around town or standing in line for lunch is becoming a thing of the past. It may even change the concept of the “lunch hour” or mealtime break, as employees can access the healthy foods as easily as the traditional snack foods and eat when they are hungry. Pasta dishes, smoothies, fresh fruit and hot soup are but a few of the healthy food companies are now offering.

Hot food during the work day helps employees feel energized and satisfied. It is more practical and time saving and eliminates the need for employees to leave the workplace and worry about getting back to work on time. Employees also avoid standing in line at the microwave in the lunch room, as well. Because all of those little annoyances during a typical work day add up to stress, it is easy to see how the advantages of having vending machines available keep people happier and more productive.

Vending Machines Repair

Suppliers place, stock, maintain and repair the units in the workplace or other areas without the need for the business owner to spend any time on it or be inconvenienced by this function. The machines are regularly checked for functionality as they are stocked. If there is any malfunction at any other time, a telephone call to the company will bring a repair technician to the scene promptly. Fast quality service to customers is a priority for companies. Repair technicians are normally proficient in common techniques for repairing and maintaining electronic equipment. They can diagnose errors with their problem solving skills and make decisions to resolve the issue.

The technician will check all wiring and electrical components to ensure the machine dispenses products as requested. Vending companies naturally want to make sure their machines work smoothly and are user friendly. Tips will also be given to the business owner on keeping the machines running well and protecting them from misuse.

For all the advantages these devices to the workplace and many other facilities, it just makes good sense to use them to their full potential.

Radon Gas and Lung Cancer

When you hear the term ‘lung cancer’ a lot may come to mind. More often than not, we think of cigarettes, and their dangers. You may also think of coal miners, or gases that industry specific professionals are exposed to. While these are all serious risks that you should be aware of, you may be shocked to realize that studies have shown that 16% of all lung cancer cases actually come from radon gas.

That’s right, breathing the air right in your own home is the culprit of 16% of all lung cancer cases. If someone were to tell you that the indoor air quality in the homes of American’s was the culprit of 16% of all lung cancer cases, one would be curious if all American’s lived next to a power plant or industrial factory.

Even though many of our homes are in scenic, suburban landscapes, the trouble lies within the soil where radon gas forms. Radon is both colorless, and odorless, so there is no telling whether or not your home is affected without having a professional test. To put it in perspective, over 20,000 people die from radon gas each year. That is more than drunk driving, and many other serious causes of death. One out of every fifteen homes has high levels of radon gas, meaning that there is a pretty good chance more than a handful of people in your neighborhood, or on your street, may be negatively affected by radon gas.

Radon Gas Mitigation Process

In order to understand the radon gas mitigation process, you must first understand where radon gas comes from. Radon comes from the uranium which breaks down in your soil. As radon gas forms, it is in a gaseous state. As you may already know, gases may easily enter your home through small spaces in the foundation or basement. Another entry point is through your water supply. Even if your home specifically does not have a lot of uranium in its soil, there may be radon near a section of the ground water which is used for your county. This could lead to radon gas entering straight through your faucet.

Once you receive your test results, you will have a better idea of your threat level. If your tests show high levels of radon gas, you know that you simply have to call a professional, such as RadonHjelpen, if you do not want to risk the health of yourself and your family. Even if your home does not have high levels of radon gas, you may still want to call a professional, as a radon gas mitigation system can provide the mitigation you need and security for the future. A properly installed mitigation system can reduce radon gas levels by as much as 99%.

Fire Safety in Welding

Fire safety is important to know especially if your a welder (for obvious reasons). Knowing how a fire starts and how to stop it could on day save your life or others, I know it certainly has mine.

Fire triangle

This is a fire triangle. All three components are needed to create the fire. Take one away and you’ll extinguish the fire. There are 3 good ways to kill a fire. Starve it, cool it, or smother it.

1-Starve it by cutting it off at the the fuel source eg. shutting off the cylinder valve.

2-Cool it by throwing water on it.

3-Smothering it will restrict the oxygen. you can use a wet blanket, sand, fire extinguisher, or if you become a human torch the stop, drop and roll technique should work.

Fire Extinguishers

There are different classes of fires A,B,C, and D.

A – Ordinary combustibles

B – Flammable liquids and gases

C – Energized electrical equipment

D – Combustible metals

I’m not going to go into great detail about the fire extinguisher. All you really have to know is what kind of fire your dealing with and make sure you have the appropriate fire extinguisher. The best one to get would be an ABC extinguisher, unless of course you plan on working with combustible metals like zirconium or magnesium. Then it would be a good idea to have a D fire extinguisher on hand. All welding shops Perth and in the rest of the country are required to have all the safety measures taken care of.

Potential fire safety hazards

Always be aware of your surroundings before you start to weld or torch cut. It’s always a good idea to move anything that looks like it could blow up or catch fire. If you can’t move it then move your work piece, if you can’t do either then block it with something to keep the sparks away like piece of ply wood.

Other potential hazards you should be aware of are the clothes you wear. Are your pants frayed at the bottom? It might look like no big deal until your welding and your wondering why your leg feels hot all of a sudden.

Sparks fly everywhere and if your not properly dressed sparks can find themselves in the most inconvenient places. So cover up properly. Do up your boots and don’t tuck your in shirt. If a spark manages to find its way down your shirt it’s easier to help it find it’s way out.

Fire safety knowledge will help keep you safe from getting any nasty burns.

Close Protection Security

Well there are many different reasons why one would need to hire close protection officers for security, it just depends on a number of different things.

Who will the Close Protection Officers be protecting?

Where will the Close Protection Officers be working?

What will the Close Protection Officers be guarding?

When will the Close Protection Officers be needed?

These are the 4 most important questions one would need to ask the client when requesting close protection services. The answers to these questions can than give the close protection officer an idea into how he will plan and execute the job.

Each client has specific needs and therefore no 2 jobs are the same in the close protection industry. This is why close protection officers are highly-skilled and are normally fluent in more than 1 language which is always helpful.

The most common job for a close protection officer would be a personal bodyguard and more than likely the client would want the bodyguard to live at the clients home and act as a residence security officer. Residential Security Teams have become really popular in the last few years as many high-profile celebrities have had their houses raided and their families have been traumatized.

The client also normally expects the bodyguard to act as an executive chauffeur and drive the client around and ensure his safety at all times. But the duties of a personal bodyguard are not related to driving the client. For security drivers in London, clients need to contact the close protection agency and contract a professional close protection London chauffeur. This can also be helpful when stuck in traffic as Close Protection Officers always have backup plans and know what would be best for the client at all times.

What is a roller shutter?

The term “roller shutter” broadly refers to any window security shutter or roller door installation. Basically, a roller shutter is a device consisting of horizontally arranged slats or bars, which can be lowered or raised to form a protective barrier or partition.

Often installed primarily to enhance security, they are made usually from from metals such as steel or aluminium, and are designed to fit onto, or into, a range of internal and external property features. Typically roller shutters are fitted over windows or doorways.

What are the benefits?

For domestic property owners and business premises alike, roller shutters can significantly enhance security levels. Security shutters are virtually impenetrable and can be securely fastened to prevent intrusion. They have been proven to significantly reduce burglary rates for homes and businesses in particular.

They are highly versatile and can fit the smallest window to the largest doorway. Roller shutters are surprisingly affordable too. As manufacturing processes have improved, so has the affordability of even the largest shutter installations. Of course it is possible to automate the opening and closing of the shutters, and many newer systems come fitted with timers too, so that the need for human intervention is completely eliminated.

Highly desirable

Due to the fact that rollers shutters are not intrusive, and can look great too, the chances are that a quality installation will really boost the value of any property. The returns on a relatively small outlay of cash can be significant in today’s market, where home and business buyers are typically looking for evidence of security features.

Two Things To Worry About When Prototyping Your Invention

A prototype, although not required in order to receive a patent, is highly recommended before moving forward with a patent search. But before you start making a prototype of your invention you need to know some very important things.

Confidentiality

Most often, you will begin prototyping your idea before you have a patent on file. Also, it will probably involve hiring someone who has access to the tools, material and equipment necessary to make a prototype of your invention. For this reason, you will want to make sure that you have a confidentiality agreement signed. Who should sign a confidentiality agreement? Anyone to whom you disclose your invention. And, you will want to make sure that you trust that they will keep your idea confidential. You can consult with InventHelp professionals about it and you can find more information about InventHelp here.

It is important to keep your idea confidential because failure to do so could constitute a public use of your invention. If you invention is publicly used before you have a patent on file, this would begin the ticking of the clock for a one year grace period. You have exactly one year from the earliest date of public use within which to file for a patent. Failure to do so will result in the loss of your right to a patent. That is why you want to make sure that any disclosure of your invention is done so only after a Confidentiality Agreement has been signed.

But, sometimes just having a confidentiality agreement is not enough to completely protect you, which brings me to Thing #2.

The Work for Hire Agreement

Under U.S. Patent law, a patent may be filed only in the name of the original inventor or inventors. And, all inventors have equal rights to the patent. When you hire someone to help build you a prototype, it is possible that they will come up with additional improvements to your invention. It would then be required that they be named as an inventor on your patent application.

For this reason, before you hire someone to help you, you need to have them sign what is called a *Work for Hire* or *Consultant Agreement*. In this agreement, the person that you hire, the consultant, will agree to assign all patent and intellectual property rights to you even if they become a named inventor. This allows you to maintain all rights to your patent.

This is important because if you do not have such an agreement, you could end up splitting your profits with this other person. Consult with InventHelp if you have any doubts.

Okay, I hope that you make sure that everyone that you speak to about your invention signs a Confidentiality Agreement, and that anyone you hire agrees to assign all intellectual property rights to you.

Patent Agency

Going through the patent application process is very complicated and in some cases can be extremely lengthy, it’s not uncommon to have the process be several years or more from start to finish. Most people do not have the time or knowledge of the process to keep track of everything during this time.

The first thing to keep in mind when searching for a patent agency to help patent your idea is that not all patent companies will be competent in the same things. For example, knowing how to get a patent for a computer software invention is completely different from knowing how to get a patent for a chemistry invention.

Just as any professional would not have extensive knowledge of something unrelated to their expertise, patent agencies are the same. Very often a patent agency will turn down client’s that are in fields that they have little experience with. This is entirely in your benefit and something to understand when finding a patent company.

Probably the most common concern for someone finding a good patent agency is if that person can be trusted with such sensitive information. Like any other agency, a good patent agency such as InventHelp will have confidentiality measures and contracts in place to protect your information.

Finding a Patent Lawyer or an Agency

Of course there will likely be a few bad apples, but that is why you should use caution when finding a patent agency. In order to be a qualified patent attorney you have to have at least an undergraduate degree in the field of patents you want to work, then pass the US patent bar exam, then graduate law school and pass the state bar exam. As long as you check for these qualifications when finding a patent agency, you will be just fine.

When you patent your idea, it is imperative that you find a patent agency such as Invent Help who has not only the qualifications but also the experience. All that schooling will not tell a patent attorney how to write a good patent application. Always be sure to ask for a sample of a patent lawyer’s work. You should also ask all the potentials to become your patent attorney for a sample of their fee agreement, client letter, and other client correspondence.

When you are working on finding a patent lawyer, all of this information is vital to your decision. If something in the patent lawyer’s paperwork doesn’t make sense, or seems unprofessional, this could be a cause for concern and need clarification.

When you have all the information on the patent attorneys then you need to decide which of this information is most important to you. Your interviews and decision should be based on this list of priorities. Finding a patent lawyer is not difficult, you just need to know what you want in a patent lawyer.
